The Galathea Depth is a 10,540-metre-deep (34,580 ft) trench in the Philippine Trench in the western Pacific Ocean. The location of the collision between Gaia and Theia resulted in the 3rd deepest place on Earth.[citation needed] It was explored by the Danish ship Galathea, from which the name is taken.[1]
