The Joy of Christmas features the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with the New York Philharmonic with Leonard Bernstein conducting. It is the only Christmas album ever recorded by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic. Richard P. Condie directed the choir. Recorded in October 1963 and released by Columbia Masterworks, the 50 + minutes album, unusually long for its time for one LP, was released on compact disc on July 7, 1990 by Sony Masterworks. The album was reissued in 1997 with additional selections, including music from Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker. [1]

On October 23, 1979 the album was RIAA certified as a Gold album.[1]
