The Motorettes were a band from the North East England coastal town of Tynemouth. The band comprised Jack Laidlaw, Jed Laidlaw and Robin Howe. They were signed to Kitchenware Records with Editors. They released their debut single "Super Heartbeats" on 23 January 2006. "Super Heartbeats" was the Xfm single of the week.[citation needed] The Motorettes extensively toured the UK throughout 2006. This included joint-headline dates in July with Kubichek!. In June 2007, drummer Jed Laidlaw left the Motorettes, and was replaced by Daniel Rose-Troup, who then subsequently left shortly after. The Motorettes played the Freevolution Festival in Newcastle on May Day 2007.

Their debut album, The Motorettes, was released on 21 August 2006.
