Tokyo College of Music

Tokyo College of Music (東京音楽大学, Tōkyō Ongaku Daigaku) was founded as Toyo Conservatory of Music (東洋音楽学校, Tōyō Ongaku Gakkō) in Kanda, Tokyo in 1907. It is the oldest private music school in Japan.

History

The founder, Yonejirō Suzuki, introduced European classical music into the Empire of Japan.[citation needed]

The college moved to its current location in Ikebukuro, Tokyo in 1924 after the original campus was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake.
