Tony Cahill (20 December 1941 – 13 August 2014) was an Australian drummer and bassist who is best known for being the second drummer for the Easybeats.
Career[edit]
Cahill joined The Purple Hearts in 1966, when the Brisbane-based group relocated to Sydney.[1] In 1967, he moved to England and played with Georgie Fame for a while.[2][3]
Then, he joined the Easybeats on drums in 1967, when Gordon "Snowy" Fleet left the band to spend time with family. Cahill was the only member of the band originally composed of migrants living in Australia who actually came from Australia.
Cahill played on three Easybeat studio albums: Vigil, Falling Off the Edge of the World, and Friends. He co-wrote their song "Come In You'll Get Pneumonia".[4] In 1972, Cahill traded drums for bass and was bassist for Python Lee Jackson.[5]
Cahill left Python Lee Jackson soon after to join King Harvest on tour when their song "Dancing in the Moonlight" was generating interest in America.[2] He stayed with them until 1974.
Death[edit]
Cahill lived in Venice, Los Angeles until his death.[6] After being diagnosed with a brain tumour, he moved back to Australia and died on 13 August 2014, aged 72.
