List of storms named Fred
Appearance
The name Fred has been used for a total of five tropical cyclones worldwide:
In the North Atlantic:
- Hurricane Fred (2009) – One of the strongest hurricanes on record in the southeast tropical Atlantic, only third known major hurricane east of 35°W.
- Hurricane Fred (2015) – The easternmost hurricane ever to occur in the tropical Atlantic, and the first one to move through the Cape Verde islands since 1892.
The name replaced Fabian which was retired after the 2003 season.
In the Western Pacific:
- Typhoon Fred (1991) (T9111, 12W) – Category 2 typhoon that struck Hainan Island and Vietnam.
- Super Typhoon Fred (1994) (T9416, 19W, Susang) – Category 4 super typhoon that struck China, resulting in extreme storm surge combined with heavy flooding, amounting to over 1,000 fatalities and billions in damage.
In the Southwest Pacific:
- Cyclone Fred (1980) – Information unknown.
