UltraNet was an Internet service provider based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA. It was founded in 1994 by Geoffrey Schultz, a former employee of DEC. It specialized in dial-up residential and high-speed business Internet access and web site hosting. In 1998, it was bought out, along with another ISP in Virginia called Erols, for a combined $110 million by RCN Corp.. At the time, UltraNet had around 60,000 customers. RCN continued to run a network operations center at the Marlborough location for several years. Schultz took the opportunity to pursue his love of recreational sailing on a full-time basis.
