The University of Health Sciences Antigua, also known as UHSA, is a private university in Antigua, West Indies.

Campus

The Dowhill Campus is located about 12 miles (19 km) from the capital city St. John's. The university is located on a 50 acre area within the Historical National Park area of the English Harbor.

Accreditation

The UHSA is recognised by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.[1]

The school is listed in the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) International Medical Education Directory (IMED) as having commenced instruction in 1983.[2]

The school is listed with the World Health Organization[3]

Controversy and criticism

Consumer advocates have been reported as referring to University of Health Sciences Antigua as a diploma mill.[4]

The University of Health Sciences Antigua-School of Medicine was listed by the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) in a 2004 article which concluded that "At their best, international medical schools give their students the education and training needed to enter a residency program in the United States, and those graduates who become physicians go on to serve many patients. At their worst, international medical schools take unfair advantage of desperate students, by accepting candidates who are woefully unprepared for the rigors of medical education, the USMLE, or the practice of medicine."[5]

Kansas has filed suit against a dentist for using the title "M.D." without complying with state licensing requirements after obtaining a medical doctorate through an accelerated 18 month course of internet classes, clinical rotations and lectures at UHSA.[4]
