Sabt Al Alaya (Arabic: سبت العلاية )is the capital of its governate. Sabt Al Alaya is a city located on top of the Sarawat Mountains and Hijaz Mountains . It is situated at an elevation of 2000 feet. Sabt Al Alaya is located in southwestern Saudi Arabia and northwest of the Asir province in Saudi Arabia .[1]

Name[edit]

It is called Sabt Al Alaya. The word "Sabt" in Arabic means Saturday, referring to the famous weekly market that was held every Saturday. "Al Alaya" literally means 'the high' in Arabic, which refers to its high altitude above sea level.[2]

Climate / Weather[edit]

Sabt Al Alaya's climate is moderate in summers and cold in winters[2]. During the very hot summer days, temperatures can reach 30 degrees Celsius, while in winter, the daily average temperature hovers around 7-10 degrees Celsius. Unlike most cities in Saudi Arabia, Sabt Al Alaya is known for its significant amount of rainfall throughout all seasons, including summer. Additionally, the city experiences fog in all seasons.

Al Zaytoun club (Arabic: نادي الزيتون) is the city's club . "Al Zaytoun" means "the olive" in reference to the olive tress that were abundant in the city. The club was founded in the year 1975.[3]
