Black Cobra (gang)[edit]

Black Cobra is one of the largest immigrant street gangs in Denmark and is represented in most major Danish cities, with approximately 100 members.[4] The gang is also active in Sweden, having established itself in the Malmö district Rosengård[5] and the Stockholm suburbs of Tensta, Rissne and Rinkeby.[6][7][8] They also control a youth gang called the Black Scorpions.[9] They are involved in drug trafficking, extortion and murder.[10] The police describe Black Cobra as a loose network composed of strong leadership figures.[11] The Black Cobra was founded in Roskilde in the year 2000. In March 2009, members of the Black Cobra were arrested in Malmö for extorting a company for protection money and trafficking illegal drugs.[12] Black Cobra members wear black and white shirts with an emblem on the back of a cobra in attack position. The shirts also have Black Cobra written on them, above the emblem in Old English-style writing.

Criminal Organization[edit]

The Black Cobra is a large criminal organization founded by Palestinian immigrants based in Denmark in 2000. The gang consists of predominately Muslim members and has since extended their activities into Sweden, mainly reported operating in the suburbs of Stockholm and in the Muslim Ghetto. [1] Recently, the gang has reported their leave in Sweden and has been rumored to ditch their trademark attire: black or white shirt with logo of a Cobra. [2]The gang is still active however, and over the course of their establishment they have been arrested on several occasions for crimes that range from violent robberies to shootings and murders of rival gang members of other groups and organizations.

One of the members, identified only by his age, 20, was arrested and confessed to an involuntary manslaughter sentenced after he reportedly attempted to run over policemen, which resulted in him hitting three cyclists and eventually killing one. [6]

Leaving Sweden[edit]

According to Swedish news report from Sydsvenskan newspaper, the gang has decided to end their presence in the country starting with departing from Skåne; citing that the members have since moved on to “other interests”. Swedish police forces are in the middle of cracking the case as the gang decides to depart from further operations, however, police are receiving the news well although they claim they acknowledge that this will not be the end of organized crime. “You have to understand that these individuals don't just disappear. They are still out there and are probably going to continue to be involved in criminal activities," according to Linda Haddemo, a spokesperson for the Malmö police's anti-gang unit.[7]

Membership/recruitment[edit]

According to local police of Stockholm, the group has made their way well into the town and has been extending their recruitment and membership to the area. They dominantly target young people between the ages of 15 to 20 who reportedly all lead a life of drugs and abuse. Sources reveal that upon joining the gang, a membership fee us required to be paid in monetary form. [8]
