Syracuse Research Corporation

SRC, formerly Syracuse Research Corporation, is an independent, not-for-profit research and development company that develops solutions in the defense, environment and intelligence industries. SRC is chartered by the State of New York, with headquarters in North Syracuse, NY.

The company specializes in advanced radar, electronic warfare, communications systems, intelligence consulting and engineering, environmental chemistry, toxicology and risk assessment.

History

Created by Syracuse University in 1957, the company became an independent organization in the early 1970s.[1] In 2008, SRC underwent a re-branding campaign to become recognized among its competitors and potential employment candidates as a national organization. They touted a new image and new name – Syracuse Research Corporation became SRC.

In 2006, SRC created SRCTec, an ISO 9001-registered subsidiary [2] that provides manufacturing and logistics support for complex electronics systems.

SRC and SRCTec employ more than 1,000 people in 14 offices across the United States. [3]

SRC and SRCTec are headquartered in Syracuse, NY, and have offices in Arlington, Chantilly, and Charlottesville, VA; Dayton, OH; Denver CO; Aberdeen and Hanover, MD; Rome, NY; Huntsville, GA; Portland, ME; and San Antonio, TX.

Support offices are located in Eglin Air Force Base, FL; Ft. Monmouth, N.J.; Omaha, NE; Orlando, FL; San Diego,CA; St. Louis, MO; Waco, TX; and Yuma, AZ.

As of September 2009, SRC is in the final Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council process to identify the corporate headquarters as a green building.[4]

Industries Served

SRC primarily serves the defense, environment and intelligence industries, and is nationally recognized[5] in the design, development and manufacture of advanced radar, electronic warfare and communications systems for land, sea, air and space applications.

SRC’s environmental science staff is internationally acknowledged for performing analysis of complex environmental and toxicological interactions, and conducting research in environmental chemistry, toxicology and chemical risk assessment methodology.

SRC also researches, develops and deploys intelligence solutions for national security.

SRCTec provides manufacturing and logistics support for complex electronics systems, including counter-fire radars, air-surveillance radars, counter-IED and ground surveillance radars.

SRC and SRCTec customers include the Intelligence Community, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines and the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as being a partner and team member with numerous other government contractors.[6]

Corporate Affairs and Structure

SRC/SRCTec have earned many awards for corporate culture, including being named one of the “Best Companies to Work for in New York” by the New York State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Best Companies Group[7]; SHRM’s Donlon Award for family-friendly workplace[8]; and Business of the Year Award and Community Involvement Achievement Award from the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.

SRC/SRCTec have earned numerous awards for their technological contributions as well, including Company of the Year by the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council[9]  ; Technology Company of the Year, Technology Projects of the Year and Continuing Technical Excellence by the Technology Alliance of Central New York [10] ; the James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award;[11] and the Army’s Top 10 Inventions Award – two consecutive years.[12]

As a not-for-profit organization without stockholders, SRC uses its earnings for employee training, professional development, benefits, new facilities, state-of-the-art equipment, internal research and development projects, and business-diversification initiatives. It also pushes innovative solutions through its Advanced Technology Initiatives program. This program works to solve customer “grand challenge” problems that may otherwise seem impossible to solve.
