Epidemiology[edit]

Cholecystitis accounts for 3-10% of cases of abdominal pain worldwide.[1] Cholecystitis caused an estimated 651,829 emergency department visits and 389,180 hospital admissions in 2012.[2] The mortality rate in 2012 was 0.7 per 100,000 people.[2] [3] [4]

This section should discussion the frequency of the condition and how it varies in different regions of the world if that data is avaliable. We also often discuss how age affects frequency and how ethnicity affect frequency in this section.
