Environmental psychology: Offices and cubicles
[1] One of the concerns of environmental psychology is about how environment of the workplace affects the well-being and hence the productivity of employee. There has been lots of research done on that topic. Cubicles were introduced recently instead of offices which was considered to bring:
- more team spirit
- communications between different groups of employees and managers.
[2] Further researches however show controversial results about this type of setting. In spite of some benefits, many employees are dissatisfied because of great lack in their private space and being disturbed by other employee's conversations and actions. Studies after studies reveal that employee job satisfaction and production are correlated with their workplace setting, and putting workers in more and more smaller cubicles might be not beneficial for the company in a long run.
