From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to Adam Mugliston's Adopt-a-User program! As that I don't know much about you, I would like you to fill out a questionnaire that I made.

But before that; About Me.

Me

[edit]

I have been on Wikipedia for almost 4 years, although I did sometimes have long breaks. So far, I have made over 5,300 edits. I mainly create and edit articles to do with buses, as that is my hobby. I also do some anti-vandalism work, I'm a member of the Welcoming Committee and I also potter around with other bits and bobs. My other interests include various other forms of public transport, cats and music. I am usually on for a very short while in the mornings, about 7.30am - 8.30am and then I am on from 4pm - 10.30pm (all times in GMT). On weekends I am usually on from 8.30am - 11pm.

You

[edit]

Now tell me about you. Well, it took me a few minutes to figure out that I had to click "edit" to answer your questions <sigh> --Trichoses (talk) 18:23, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

About Yourself

[edit]

I'm 61. My friends consider me computer savvy, but that's just because they just give up when something doesn't work.

Interests: I like reading non-fiction (mostly about psychology, neurosciences, political theory, cats and dogs), though I do love 'All Creatures Great and Small', 'Winnie the Pooh', and 'On Beyond Zebra'. I have a cat and I play music and sing (badly). I also like volunteering doing transcriptions for genealogy free-sites.

When are you online? I'm online pretty frequently, though not predictably. Right now it's 11 AM Pacific Time. (GMT confuses me) I don't work, so I might be online anytime from morning to late evening.

Your activities on Wikipedia: (What have you done so far?) I've read discussion pages of articles, and I think once tried to edit something. I've also tried asking questions, but must have done it wrong because I never got answers.

How long have you been on Wikipedia? I don't have a good sense of time, but I've used it for years.

Out of 1 - 10, rate how advanced you are: (I am not really expecting anything over 3, a 1 would be knowing the very basics of wiki markup, a 10 would be someone who took part in all kinds of tasks on Wikipedia.) 1

What you hope to get out of mentoring/adopting

[edit]

I'd like to be able to edit an article when I see something incorrect, I'd also like to discuss with someone incorporating more Plain English (for example when articles use jargon and don't give Plain English terms.

Is there an area you think we should particularly work on? Sometimes I have difficulty interpreting questions. By "we" do you mean you and me, or do you mean Wikipedia? But for me, for example, I just tried reading the tutorial on editing and got stuck in the sandbox :-)

What do you hope to achieve by the time you graduate? I'd like to be able to contribute as mentioned above. I'm particularly interested in articles being 'objective', that is, not using loaded language, or sounding like advertisements.
