Hi, I´m Ægir Þór Steinarsson

I am born and raised in Iceland but have lived abroad for a large part of my life in Norway, Spain and Colombia but have recently moved back home to my native country.

I hold a bachelor´s degree in business administration from laSalle Barcelona and a master´s degree in human-centered design from IE Madrid. I work in the startup sector and some of my professional interests include how design products that help users make positive behavioral changes, how to overcome trust issues between users and developers in a jungle of products and beautiful user interface design and flows and how to generally bring beauty into products. While studying in Spain I launched two ventures. One focused on taking position data (x,y coordinates) from footballers during matches and creating art pieces that showed the movement patterns leading up to important moments such as goals. The movement pattern together with an artists input would be combined into a beautiful piece that could be put on a living room wall. My other venture, an app, focused on helping people make new friends in this digital world. The users were able to post every day activities such as simply going to the movies or grabbing lunch with other users who could then join.

My current professional role is a product manager for a medical startup in Reykjavík, Iceland which has developed an algorithm which is published in an app that can tell users their risk of developing sight threatening diabetic retinopathy. This is also the main reason for making this user account as I noticed that the company does not have its own Wikipedia page. Given the structure of Wikipedia articles, this will also be a good learning experience for me to write an unbiased, structured and well sourced article.

In my personal life I enjoy travelling and have done so extensively the last years all around the globe. My travels have taken me to Japan, Sri Lanka, Jordan, The US, Canada, Russia and all-around Europe. In the future I tend to focus less on city destinations and more on less explored countries, especially in Eastern Europe. Other than that I am very much a cinema fan and I see everything from the latest Marvel movies to some art installations combining Alice in Wonderland with Led Zeppelin playing underneath (pretty cool stuff). I like to think of myself as a good cook and I enjoy making the base elements such as almond milk, sauces, spices etc. more than I enjoy the actual cooking. I believe that one must understand the basics before one can understand the whole.
