One thing about Pride that was seen as controversial by some, was that the movie seemed to gloss over and be silent about Mark Ashton being a part of the Communist Party of Great Britain, especially since Ashton was a prominent member of the Communist Party of Great Britain, specifically in the youth wing, Young Communist League. [1][2]

At that pride march, Mark Ashton and Mike Jackson ended up collecting around £150. [3]

Some, like Lucy Robinson, thought that the LGSM twinning with the Dulais Support Group, and not giving money directly to NUM, was a sort of rejection of the NUM.[3] This interpretation by Robinson has been critiqued by Diarmaid Kelliher. [4]

The money raised was used to buy a white minibus to help transport the miners and their families around the country so that they could keep giving speeches relevant to their campaign. The minibus was white, and had a pink triangle and ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’ printed on it. [3]

The members of LGSM gave their support to the miners from a socialist standpoint, they did not intend or expect the miners to suddenly subscribe to lesbian and gay politics just because members from those communities were supporting them. Rather, members of LGSM wanted out and were open with their sexuality, instead of just socialists supporting the miners.[3]
