The study is being conducted by researchers at UC Santa Cruz in partnership with Felidae Conservation Fund, with coordination from the California Department of Fish and Game and California State Parks.[1]
In order to successfully address these challenges, greater understanding about the puma population is needed to enable more informed dialog among decision makers, so that the issues can be resolved effectively and healthy co-existence can be achieved between human communities and puma populations.[1][2][3]
This feature will offer new insights into puma behavior and physiology, especially regarding interactions with habitat, prey, humans, and residential communities.- http://www.ucsc.edu/news_events/press_releases/text.asp?pid=2173 Press Release- May 6, 2008
The findings will be the basis for outreach and education programs that will help convince local communities and regional decision makers of the need to preserve habitats, stave off further extinctions, and promote healthy ways for humans to co-exist with wild cats.- http://www.felidaefund.org/research/bay_puma.html BAPP
2. Felidae Conservation Fund-
“Felidae Conservation Fund is a California-based non-profit organization dedicated to preserving wild cats and their habitats. The organization supports and promotes international wild cat research and conservation by collaborating on field research projects, partnering with other environmental organizations, and developing community outreach and education programs.”- Felidae Conservation Fund Website
In History- “after returning from extended capture work with mountain lions, she began developing a conservation model that combined scientific research with education and outreach programs. This led her to form Felidae Conservation Fund (501c3) in April 2006.”- Tracking Urban Lions - KQED 88.5 FM Interview with David Gorn on January 12, 2009
In Mission and Philosophy: Felidae's mission is to protect all wild cat species and their habitats by partnering in scientific research, developing community education and outreach programs, and promoting international conservation efforts. Its model is to collaborate on research studies that examine human impact on wild cats and their habitats, and then disseminate the results in outreach and education programs designed to convince people of the importance of preserving the natural environment. Felidae collaborates with scientists, educators, communities and lawmakers with the goal of protecting ecosystems, staving off further extinctions, and promoting healthy ways for humans to co-exist with wild cats and their habitats.- Felidae Conservation Fund - Western and Wildlife Art Magazine - September 2008, Felidae Conservation Fund Website
