On his weekly television show, Hassan elaborated on the religious ruling
"this unjust attack was an attack on all Egypt"
“that the scholars in Islamic jurisprudence (fuqahā’) have unanimously agreed that the killing of a Muslim or a Dhimmi is a major sin (kabira) under Islamic law and , as reported by Ibn Hazm, the obligation by Muslims to protect dhimmis".

A hadith by Muhammad, "Whoever killed a Mu'ahid (a person who is granted the pledge of protection by the Muslims) shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise though its fragrance can be smelt at a distance of forty years (of traveling)",[4]
"Whoever was entrusted with a man's blood then killed him, Then I'm innocent of the killer, even if the murdered was a disbeliever"[5]
