1971-72 Namibian Contract Workers Strike[edit]

Namibia, formerly South West Africa was seen as a primitive country with people lacking political awareness. A general strike would be used as a highly sophisticated weapon. The strike started on 13 December 1971 in Windhoek and Walvis Bay. It would go on to spread to the Tsumeb mine, and with no time crippled most of the mines in the territory. 13,000 workers striked in total, which was 25 percent of the contract workers .[1]
