Bibliography[edit]

****NOTE: in the references section, I was not able to change my citations to not include ProQuest and other links, because "basic citation" was not available, just as in my sandbox. However, on the live article, the citations with such links are not included and were able to be edited to be basic citations.

Edit this section to compile the bibliography for your Wikipedia assignment. Add the name and/or notes about what each source covers, then use the "Cite" button to generate the citation for that source.

References

"Angela Jackson.", -11-08, 2023, https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/angela-jackson. [1]

- This source gives information about some of the most prestigious awards that Jackson won and was nominated for, and for which works. I will use this source to cite the lists about her awards and works.

"Angela Jackson." Gale Literature: Contemporary Authors. Gale, Farmington Hills, MI, 2015. Gale Literature Resource Center; Gale, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/H1000049355/GLS?u=wash43584&sid=bookmark-GLS&xid=7940f26f. [2]

- This source gives and overview on Angela Jackson's life and her work as a writer, giving special weight to her poetry. It also mentioned the awards she has won as lists about her writing and other works. The source also includes touches of reception from the public and review articles from the New York Times Book Review and Publishers Weekly. I am going to use this article to cite the awards and works that the article already includes, and also for the reception section I am planning to add.

"Angela Jackson's Biography.", https://www.thehistorymakers.org/biography/angela-jackson-41 [3]

- This article gives a quick summary of Jackson's childhood, and expands upon her time at Northwestern University, and how she ended up there based on a pre-med scholarship. Interestingly, the source discusses how she joined the black student union called the FMO, exposing her to different forms of art by Black students and professionals. This led her to joining OBAC, which the Wikipedia article currently discusses. I plan to use this article to expand upon OBAC and how it influenced Jackson's career, and I also want to add a bit about FMO, which the article does not have. I plan to add these things to the Education section.

"Full of Grace: Northwestern Magazine - Northwestern University.", 2009, https://www.northwestern.edu/magazine/winter2009/feature/angelajackson.html. [4]

I used this source to find information about Jackson's degree from Northwestern, specifically that it was in English and American Literature. I will use this to give more context to her credentials in the Education section.

"Illinois Poet Laureate Angela Jackson.", https://ilhumanities.org/illinois-poet-laureate.[5]

-This source gives a comprehensive overview of Jackson's work and awards/honors. It also includes description about in which publications her work has been featured. I will use this source in the Awards/Honors and Works sections, both to add missing information and to cite existing information.

"Jackson, Angela July, 25, 1951-." Encyclopedia of African-American Writing. Grey House Publishing, 2018, https://search.credoreference.com/articles/Qm9va0FydGljbGU6NDY3MzI1NA==?aid=103525 [6]

- This source provides some context to Jackson's career as a poet, including that she was influenced by Mari Evans during her time at Northwestern. It also establishes that she has influences other poets at Columbia College in Chicago, Framingham State College and Howard University. The source describes awards she has won. I will use this source to cite the awards section in the article. I will also talk about Mari Evans in the "Influences" subsection that I want to create.

"The HistoryMakers Video Oral History with Angela Jackson." , directed by Angela Jackson, Larry F. Crowe, and Scott Stearns. , The HistoryMakers, 2016. [7]

- In this video interview with Angela Jackson, many different aspects of her life are discussed, including her childhood, OBAC, influences on her writing, and her writing and teaching career. I will use this source to expand on sections such as Childhood/Early Life, Education, and Career.

"OBAC, Organization of Black American Culture 1967-." Encyclopedia of African-American Writing. Grey House Publishing, 2018, https://search.credoreference.com/articles/Qm9va0FydGljbGU6NDY3MzY2MA==?aid=103525. [8]

-This source gives relevant background information about OBAC, which is an organization that seems to play a big role in Jackson's exposure to poetry. It gives the history of the reasons for the organization, and its coordinators including Jackson. I will use this source to expand on the Education section, in which I plan to move the discussion about OBAC.

[9]

-This source announces Jackson as the Illinois Poet Laureate, and describes the title. It also gives a brief overview of her work and credentials. I will use this source in the Awards section when I add this award, which is currently not included in the list. I will most likely use this source in the paragraph I am planning to add before the list.

Salazar, C. T. "Mississippi-Born and Chicago-Bred Angela Jackson Returns with Poetic Triumph." Hattiesburg American, 2022, pp. D.3. -This source is a review of Jackson's collection called "More Than Meat and Raiment." The viewer also gives some positive opinions on her past work. I will use this source in the reception section that I plan to add.

Seaman, Donna. It Seems Like a Mighty Long Time. vol. 111, , 2015, https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&AuthType=ip,uid&db=aft&AN=100783002&site=ehost-live&scope=site. [11]

-This source comes from a booklist from American Library Association and reviews It Seems like a Mighty Long Time by Jackson. It describes her influences in this book and others, and how she uses poetry as a powerful device. I will use this source in both the influences and reception sections.

Smith, D. L. "Angela Jackson." Afro-American Poets since 1955. Edited by Trudier Harris-Lopez, and Thadious M. Davis. Gale, Detroit, MI, 1985. Gale Literature Resource Center; Gale, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/H1200001426/GLS?u=wash43584&sid=bookmark-GLS&xid=e133d40d. [12]

-D.L. Smith provides an overview of Jackson's life, including her educational influences, her family life, and, as he claims, one of the biggest influences on her writing, OBAC. The piece also describes reception from audiences, as well as the cultural content in her writing. I will use this source to create the influences section and expand on OBAC and her family life. I will also use it to write the introductory paragraph at the beginning of the poetry section to emphasize the cultural content of her work.
