I am a PhD candidate in 20th-21rst century English, French and American Literature and Digital Media at one of the campuses of the University of California system. I teach undergraduate sections on literature, writing, and language. My research focuses on obsession in narrative construction, particular in the context of the work of Marcel Proust, the figure of Virgina Woolf, and the open-ended role-playing video game. Major intellectual interests of mine include turn of the (19th/20th) century and Modernist literature, video game theory, certain strains of philosophy and critical theory, postmodernism, sequential art (comics), science-fiction and fantasy, the production and performance of culture, 16th-17th century literature and history, music (particularly electronic, classical and "new music"), and pop culture studies (particularly of television, video games, street art and other heavily visual media). In what free time I have I play with my PS3, watch too many movies/tv shows, and read more things than I already have to read. I have a tendency to find myself reading for hours through Wikipedia pages, and have a particular habit of getting caught in loops of Wikipedia pages having to do with the Cold War, airplane disasters, mythology, mountain climbing, and various specific historical moments.
