US Coast Guard 24 foot small response boat. Boats like these are sometimes used to interdict illegal immigration or drugs from entering the United States.

In 2021 ten Cuban migrants were lost at sea after departing from the Port of Mariel in Cuba.[1] When there is calm weather in the Gulf of Mexico, there is an increase in Cuban migrants[1]. People who travel by sea to enter a country sometimes use handmade or old vessels to cross the Gulf of Mexico.[2]
