Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) is an international higher education institution specialized in Science, Technology, Social Sciences and Business. Its main campus is located in Benguerir, Morocco, in the immediate vicinity of Marrakech, with branches in Rabat and Laayoun Established by OCP Foundation (part of OCP Group), and inaugurated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on January 12, 2017, UM6P represents an extension of the core values of the group, which are promoting the development of knowledge in different areas through research, innovation, sustainable development and higher education.

UM6P has the ambition to meet the challenges of research, innovation and training for Morocco and for Africa in general, by focusing on various topics such as industrialization, food security, sustainable development, the digital mine, social sciences…

The total number of UM6P students is 2182, for the academic year 2020-2021.

Historique[edit]

Committed to train the future leadership of the continent, UM6P mobilizes researchers in various fields related to mining, agricultural science, urban planning, governance… and deploys more than 270 research programs with Moroccan universities and partners around the world. UM6P develops an approach that promotes experimentation, interdisciplinarity and entrepreneurship.

2009: Launch of the Green City project of Benguerir by His Majesty King Mohammed VI as part of the OCP group’s major urban development projects.[1]



2012: Visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the launch of the construction of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.[1]


2013: Authorization of the first school of engineering at the UM6P, School of Industrial Management (EMINES)[1]



2014: Authorization of the Faculty of Governance Economic & Social Sciences (FGSES), former School of Governance and Economics of Rabat passed under the aegis of UM6P – no public source

Ministerial recognition of diplomas:

The National Commission for the Coordination of Higher Education (CNCES) has ruled favorably on the recognition by the State of UM6P, at its session of July 25, 2017. This recognition attests that Mohammed VI Polytechnic University meets the required quality standards, in terms of infrastructure and equipment as well as at the level of academic programs and research.

UM6P has developed a very diverse network of partnerships and links in Morocco and around the world with higher education institutions, research centers, organizations and companies, among others. These collaborations are based on the principles of sharing best practices, excellence and mutual benefits, and target collaboration in research, education, innovation and entrepreneurship in all areas of intervention.

As a young, fast-growing and dynamic university of higher education and research, UM6P sees these partnerships as a tremendous opportunity to address the needs of its ecosystem, to accelerate its contribution to national development plans. UM6P continues to create meaningful linkages that align with its development goals and aspirations at the local, regional and international levels.

African dimension[edit]

UM6P collaborates with several institutions in African countries and sets up experimental research platforms and applied research laboratories with partner universities. This project, which will be implemented with the recruitment of thousands of students and researchers, 6,000 by 2025, aims to contribute to meeting the research challenges for Africa in terms of industrialization, food security and health.[1]


Campus & architecture[edit]

UM6P campus, which accompanies the master plan to transform Benguerir into the new Green City Mohammed VI, was designed and imagined by the architects Ricardo Bofill and Elie Mouyal, creators of the Casablanca Twin Center. The campus combines modernity and tradition and provides new and equipped infrastructures, fully adapted to teaching and research needs.[1], [2], [3]



The campus has been designed to transform completely the city of Benguerir into a green and dynamic city that will encourage sustainable development, and has been structured to create a harmony among the inhabitants, students, researchers… within the infrastructure. Indeed, the campus obtained the STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) accreditation at the SILVER level with a score of 49.48 points.[1]



The architecture of UM6P campus combines Moroccan tradition and contemporary design by offering its minimalist buildings in warm tones, surrounded by living spaces dedicated to social, intellectual and physical development.

The campus is equipped with everything the community needs to increase their personal development and enjoy an unforgettable Campus life. Examples of existing equipments:

The campus offers different accommodations in single, double or quadruple rooms that meet the highest standards of safety and comfort. Connectivity, common areas of relaxation and recreation, babysitting service, all amenities are made available to students for an optimal living experience on campus. Rooms are provided for access and accommodation for individuals with reduced mobility.

Future expansion:
