Cube World[edit]

Brief Description[edit]

Created by Radica Games, and later distributed by Mattel, Cube World consists of plastic cubes which contain LCD animated stick figures which have individual animations or when combined interactive animations.

Physical Description[edit]

Single cube[edit]

Each cube is approximately 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm x 4.5 cm. On the front there is a 2.5cm x 2.5cm LCD screen. Also on the front there are 3 buttons. On the top, left, right, and bottom sides there are 3 contacts. 2 of these contacts are magnetic and the center is not. On the back side there is a Reset button, holes for the speaker, and a screw to remove the panel to change the battery. Each cube also includes a motion sensor.

Adventure cube[edit]

Each adventure cube is approximately 9.5 cm x 9.5 cm x 4.5 cm. On the front there is a 5 cm x 5 cm LCD screen. Also on the front there are 3 buttons. On the top, left, right, bottom sides there are 3 contacts. 2 of these contacts are magnetic and the center is not. Unlike the smaller cubes, these contacts are not centered. On the top and bottom they are located on the right. On the Left and right they are located at the bottom. On the back side there is a Reset button, holes for the speaker, and a screw to remove the panel to change the battery.

Mods[edit]

Each cube is approximately 9.5 cm x 4.5cm x 4.5 cm. On the front there is a Reset button and flashing lights. Although these do not have LCD screens they do have some sort of prop which goes with their theme and flashing lights. On the top, left, right, and bottom sides there are 3 contacts. 2 of these contacts are magnetic and the center is not. On the top and bottom the contacts are not centerd but rather to the left. On the back side there are holes for the speaker, and a screw to remove the panel to change the battery.


The Buttons[edit]

For Series cubes, the left button controls the sound, the center button turns on the cube as well as starts the game and is the action button in the game, and the right button displays the high score for the game.

For Adventure cubes, The left button controls the sound, the center button turns on the cube as well as starts the game, and the right button displays the high score for the game. In the game the left button controls the left movement of the character, the center is the action in the game, and the right button controls the right movement of the character.

In all cases the Reset button can be used to either reset the high score for the cube game or to awaken an otherwise unresponsive cube.

The Motion Sensor[edit]

The motion sensor in the cube detects which direction the cube is rotated. The way the cube is rotated has an effect on the stick character.


The Series cubes[edit]

Each Series is composed of 4 different themed cubes. But Series 5 is special in that each of the cubes also includes what is called a "Mod" cube.

Series 1[edit]

  • Slim - Interacts with a stick.
  • Dodger - Enjoys kicking a ball.
  • Scoop - Dog lover.
  • Whip - Enjoys rope tricks.

Series 2[edit]

  • Mic - Loves Music.
  • Hans - Enjoys working out.
  • Handy - Fixes everything.
  • Dusty - Keeps things clean.

Series 3[edit]

  • Chief - Policeman.
  • Toner - Corporate Desk Jockey
  • Dash - Speedy Delivery
  • Sparky/Hot - Fireman.

Series 4[edit]

  • Slugger/Major - Baseball
  • Kicks - Soccer
  • Slam/Pivot - Basketball
  • Grinder - Extreme Sports

Series 5[edit]

  • Dart - Carnivals and Them Parks with Funhouse Mirror modifier.
  • Splash - Surfin' the Sewers with Faucet modifier.
  • Sci-Fi - Labs and Lasers with Particle Accelerator modifier.
  • Hip-Hop - Urban Lifestyle with Speaker modifier.


The Adventure cubes[edit]

  • Block Bash - A big city stick party. Host stick figure - Alley
  • Global Get-A-Way - A world wide stick adventure. Host stick figure - Trip.


The Stick Games[edit]

Each single cube and adventure cube includes a game. The mod cubes do not. For Series cubes the game is usually a simple game which is controlled with the center button on the front of the cube. In the case of the Adventure cubes the game is more involved. For these the 3 buttons control left, action, and right movements. In addition, unlike for Series cubes, the games in the Adventure cubes also hold a secondary goal of unlocking hidden animations that can be performed by the stick figures.

The games are as follows:

Series 1[edit]

  • Slim - Pull Up. The object of the game is to do pull ups on a bar while avoiding creatures which are passing below you.
  • Dodger - Bounce. The object of the game is to bounce the ball on your head.
  • Scoop - Keep Away. The object of the game is to try and keep the toy away from the dog.
  • Whip - Jump Rope. The object of the game is to jump rope.

Series 2[edit]

  • Mic - Spin off. The object of the game is to spin records.
  • Hans - Kick-a-Stick. The object of the game is to Karate kick a board.
  • Handy - Go Go Gopher. The object of the game is whack a gopher with a mallet.
  • Dusty - Buzz off. The object of the game is to spray the passing fly.

Series 3[edit]

  • Chief - Police Trainer. The object of the game is to kick open doors.
  • Toner - Paper Pile-Up. The object of the game is to catch the pieces of paper flying over your head.
  • Dash - Package Dash. The object of the game is to jump over the dogs.
  • Sparky - Fire Academy. The object of the game is to put out the advancing fires.

Series 4[edit]

  • Slugger - Batting Cage. The object of the game is to hit baseballs.
  • Kicks - Juggling. The object of the game is to catch the balls before they enter your net.
  • Slam - Jump Shot. The object of the game is to throw basketballs into the hoop.
  • Grinder - Rail Slides. The object of the game is to successfully jump and slide across rails with your skateboard.

Series 5[edit]

  • Dart - Water Balloon. The object of the game is to pop balloons with a dart.
  • Splash - Water Ski. The object of the game is to jump rocks while water skying.
  • Sci-Fi - Meteor. The object of the game is to avoid hitting meteors while flying with a rocket pack
  • Hip-Hop - Graffiti. The object of the game is to spray paint walls as they pass by.

The Adventure cubes[edit]

  • Block Bash - Trash Dash. The object of the game is to catch the trash being tossed from above. To unlock new animations the player must also jump over the rats running by.
  • Global Get-A-Way - The object of the game is to avoid the coconuts being throw at you. To unlock new animations the player must also catch bananas being throw at him by the monkey.


The Animations[edit]

Each character has number of animations that it performs. These animations include both individual animations they perform alone or animations that they perform with 2, 3, or even 4 other characters from other cubes. Also there are special combo animations which occur when 4 cubes are placed either in a horizontal or vertical orientation.

Individual[edit]

Common[edit]

These are basic animations which are common to all cubes.

  • Wake up & Stretch. A stick figure coming out of sleep with wake up and stretch.
  • Yawn & Sleep. Each character will yawn and curl up on the ground to go to sleep. The position of sleep is different depending on the series.
  • Tip toe balance. The stick figure will stand on their toes and balance.
  • Meditation. The character will sit, cross their legs, and meditate.
  • Pace. The character will pace from side to side.
  • Pace and Head bang. The stick character will pace from side to side and bang their head on each side.
  • Big thumbs up. The stick character will give the watcher a big thumbs up.
  • Anger. The stick figure will show anger and shake his fist towards the watcher.
  • Left fart. The character will fart to the left.
  • Right fart. The character will fart to the right.
  • Butt scratch. The stick figure will scratch their butt.
  • Left tumble. The stick figure will tumble to the left as cube is rotated.
  • Right tumble. The stick figure will tumble to the right as cube is rotated.
  • Up side down tumble. The stick figure will fall back down when the cube is rotated all the way around.
  • Left cube push. When oriented wrong the character will try to push to the left to turn the cube back over.
  • Right cube push. When oriented wrong the character will try and push to the right to turn the cube over.
  • Dizzy and Vomit. After too much rotating, the stick figure will get dizzy and vomit.
  • Head scratch. The character will scratch their head.
  • Wave. The stick figure will wave to the viewer.
  • Sleep. The stick character will curl up and go to sleep when the cube enters sleep mode.
  • Exit left. The stick figure will knock, open the door to the left, and exit.
  • Exit right. The stick figure will knock, open the door to the right, and exit.
  • Exit top. The stick figure will jump up and climb up through the top exit.
  • Exit bottom. The stick figure will open the door on the bottom and exit.
  • Closed blind. When a cube is empty, a blind will descend to signify it is empty.
Common Series 1[edit]
  • Karate moves left. The stick character will do Karate moves to his left.
  • Karate moves right. The stick character will do Karate moves to his right.
  • 360 Karate moves. The stick character will do Karate moves in all directions.
  • Karate kicks. The stick character will do Karate kicks.
  • Floating meditation. The stick character will sit with his legs crossed them float up in the air.
  • Arm exercises. The stick figure will do twistign arm exercises.
  • Back flip. The stick character will do a back flip.
  • Jump pose. The stick character will do a little hop and pose.
Character specific[edit]
Series 1[edit]
  • Slim
    • Pull ups. The stick figure will do pull ups using his stick.
    • Wave stick. The stick figure will wave his stick.
    • Stick twirl. The stick figure will twirl his stick in his hand.
    • Stick spin. The stick figure will stand his stick up and spin around it.
  • Dodger
    • Bounce ball on head. The stick character will bounce a ball on his head.
    • Ball foot juggle. The stick character will bounce a ball his feet.
    • Ball hand juggle. The stick character will pass a ball from hand to hand.
  • Scoop
    • Sit - Shake hands. The stick character will ask the dog to sit and shake hands.
    • Roll. The stick character will ask the dog to roll.
    • Sit up. The stick character will ask the dog to sit up.
    • Stand. The stick figure will ask the dog to stand.
  • Whip
    • Lasso. The stick character will use his rope as a lasso and spin it over his head.
    • Whip. The stick character will use his rope as a whip.
    • Snake charmer. The stick character will snake charm the rope to dance like a snake.
    • Jump rope. The stick character will use his rope as a jump rope.
Series 2[edit]
  • Mic
    • Singer. The stick character will sing and twirl the mic.
    • Cello. The stick character will play the cello.
    • Drummer. The stick character will play the drums.
    • Tuba. The stick character will try and play the tuba but will be unable until a smaller stick character is blow out.
    • Guitar. The stick figure will play the guitar, windmill, and smash the guitar.
  • Hans
    • Racketball. The stick figure will produce a racket and ball. First they will bonce the ball on the racket, then bounce it off the screen until it breaks.
    • Swimmer. The stick character will flood the cube and swim ending with them pulling the drain plug and being sucked in.
    • Weights. The stick characters will do weights until they accidentally crush their head flat and drop the weights on their toe.
    • Treadmill. The stick character will run on the treadmill as it gets faster and faster and finally they get thrown off.
    • Power lunch and Biking. The stick character will get a big sandwich out of the fridge. They will instantly get fat and then jump on a stationary bike until the weight is lost.
    • Power drink. The stick figure will make themselves a power drink in blender. Drink it. Get big muscles which will eventually sag to their stomach and then sag off them.
  • Handy
    • Gopher mow. The stick figure will try to mow down a gopher which pops up with his lawnmower.
    • Gopher anger. The stick figure will show anger toward a gopher who pops up.
    • Saw mishap. The stick figure will try and saw a board only to accidentally cut off his arm at the elbow. He does re-attach it.
    • Head bulb. The stick figure tries will try to change a blinking light bulb with his head only to fall and break his new bulb head. His head will then fall back on his shoulders.
    • Ceiling drill twirl. The stick character will try to drill a hole int he ceiling only to go spinning around and thrown across the room.
    • Wall hanging mishap. The stick character will try to hang a picture on the wall but the wall will fall in on him.
  • Dusty
    • Deodorant time. The stick character will display smelly armpits and take out a can of deodorant to spray on them. It will then fart and use the deodorant on the whole room.
    • Mop mishap. The stick character will get his foot stuck in the bucket while mopping, tumble, which will send the bucket flying onto his head.
    • Shower. The stick character will take a shower.
    • Vacuum mishap. The stick character will try and vacuum only to discover the vacuum is blocked. Upon inspecting the end he will be sucked in and the vacuum will explode.
Series 3[edit]
  • Chief
    • Fruit shot. The stick character will produce a piece of fruit, throw it in the air, shoot a bullet through it, and then eat it.
    • Handcuff nunchucks. The stick character will produce handcuffs they will use as nunchucks until they get caught in them.
    • Post-it Madness. The stick character will begin to past Post-It notes on the screen until it is all covered.
    • pepper Spray can mishap. The stick character will try and use a pepper spray can but will accidentally spray themselves in the face.
    • Flashing light head. The stick character will slap a flashing light over his head and run back and forth across the screen until the get knocked down.
    • Charlie Chaplin baton twirl. The character will produce a police baton, begin twirling it and do the funny Charlie Chaplin walk.
  • Toner
    • Magic briefcase. The stick figure will climb into a magic briefcase which will go flying around the cube.
    • Wrong number. The stick figure will receive a call on their cell phone which will be a wrong number. The caller will call again. The third time the stick character will throw the cell phone to the ground and smash it.
    • Computer virus. The stick character will sit at his computer only to have it infected by a computer virus which causes the computer to come to life and eat everything in the cube.
    • No coffee. The stick figure will attempt to get some coffee only to discover there is none left.
    • Butt photocopy. The stick character will hop onto a photocopy machine and photocopy their butt then proceed to show it to you.
    • Paper pileup. The stick character will be sitting at their desk as stacks of paper get bigger on either side of them and topple over flooding the whole cube.
  • Dash
    • Big box incident. The stick character will try to carry a large box across the screen only to have it crush him. He will then slide from under the box and push it off the screen.
    • Monster plant. The stick character pulls out a plant only to have it turn into a monster plant which bites off their head.
    • Playing in the popcorn. A box will fall into the screen and the stick character will jump in play in the packing popcorn only to have the box flip over.
    • The tape gun incident. The stick figure will try to tape a box close with a tape gun only to get all tangled in the attempt.
    • Upside down trolley incident. The stick figure will push a trolley loaded with boxes off the screen only to come back upside down and fall back down.
    • Check list. The stick figure will review a check list and show some frustration.
  • Sparky
    • Elephant catch. The stick figure will try and catch a falling elephant but gets crushed.
    • Axe play. The stick figure will pull out an axe, run around with it, get it stuck in one wall, and have it flip over to the other wall when they try to get it unstuck.
    • False alarm. The stick figure will grab an axe when the alarm goes off. They will run off looking for the fire only to return and smash the alarm with the axe.
    • Hydrant ride. The stick figure will open a hydrant and ride the water.
    • Hose mishap. The stick figure will try to use a hose only to have it get blocked, explode, and flood the cube.
    • Pole dance. The stick figure will pole dance.
Series 4[edit]
  • Slugger
    • Pitching front. The stick figure will pitch a ball, but then it smashes into the screen, proceeding in cracks, and the stick figure running off, in panic. After the screen is done cracking, a baseball comes down the screen, and the screen is shown to be fine, with the stick figure intact.
    • Pitching. The stick figure will pitch a ball to the right, and it hits him back in the head, coming from the left, leaving the stick figure confused.

Two stick characters[edit]

Common[edit]
  • Piggy back ride. One of the stick characters will give the other one a ride on his back.
  • Piggy back hoist. One of the stick characters will hoist the other stick character on his back and out of the cube through the top door.

Series 2[edit]
  • Tuba Repair. If Handy is placed to the right of Mic, he will climb inside Mic's tuba and throw out a bunch of junk. Mic then blows on the tuba, propelling Handy to his cube.
  • Drum Smash. If Hans is placed above Mic, Hans will lift a weight and Mic will play his drums. Parts of Han's weight will fall off, causing the ceiling in Mic's cube to shake. Hans will then drop the weight on the drums.
  • Plumbing. If Handy is placed to the right of Dusty, then Dusty will brush his teeth near a sink. The sink will then break, and both cubes will flood. Handy will then enter Dusty's cube and fix the sink.
  • Motorcycle. If Hans is placed to the left of Handy, Hans will be getting onto his exercise bike. Then Handy's lawnmower, comes from the right part of Handy's screen, and then he looks, and takes his lawnmower's motor, and puts it onto Hans' exercise bike, which proceeds in Hans crashing into Handy's wall.


Three stick characters[edit]

Series 1[edit]
  • Wall climb. Two of the three characters will try climbing the walls only to fall back in the last stick character.

Always Common[edit]

If you have four stick people from four cubes together in one cube, the stick people will fight.

Characters Specific[edit]

Four cube combinations[edit]

  • Series 1
    • Vertical. Bottom character will climb all the way to the top of the 4 cubes then bungee back down to his cube.
      • Horizontal. When one of them is at the end of a horizontal row, he will pick up a massive whip and make it hit every other person.
  • Series 2
    • Vertical. Bottom character will turn on the faucet, and climb all the way to the top of the 4th cube, and then cannonballs downwards to the feet of water.
      • Square. If they are arranged in a square, they will then proceed to start to dance.
  • Series 3

If you have four series 3 cubes arranged horizontally, one of the stick people will use his head as a ball and throws it at 3 stick peoples then the word "STRIKE" appears then the stick people come back with a full edition of the sleep mode music. Or if you have them vertically arranged in one row, they will shrink and crash into the screen. then stick people come back with the same full edition of the sleep mode music.

  • Series 4
    • Horizontal. If they are arranged horizontally, they will get onto the bleachers, and cheer, and wave with foam fingers.
      • Square. They will all run into the left wall of their cube, escalate, then jump, and land back on their feet on the bottom.

Sleep Mode[edit]

After 4 minutes of inactivity, a cube will go into sleep mode. This is characterized by the stick character curling up on the screen and going to sleep. If no further interaction occurs for another minute after this, the cube will shut off.

Replacing the battery[edit]

For the individual Series cubes, a CR2032 battery is used. To access the battery a Philips screwdriver is required to loosen the screw on the back of the cube and remove the cover.

For Mod cubes, 2 x AAA (LR03) batteries are used. To access the battery a Philips screwdriver is required to loosen the screw on the back of the cube and remove the cover.

For Adventure cubes, 3 x AAA (LR03) batteries are used. To access the battery a Philips screwdriver is required to loosen the screw on the back of the cube and remove the cover.
