Andreas Zervas, born in Patras, Greece, April 2, 1959. Since 1987 he is a resident of Thessaloniki, Greece.

Studies

He holds a bachelor in Chemistry from the University of Patras (GR) and an M.B.A. from Kingston Business School (UK). He has also studied electronic technology and holds a radio technician degree. He is an native Greek user, fluent in English, B1 level in Esperanto, A1 in Italian and German, and has elementary knowledge in French and Bulgarian.

Professional career

During his professional career he served as chief chemist and senior manager in textile industries of Thessaloniki area and Bulgaria. He was involved in topics such as the optimization and innovative design of chemical processes, the automation of industrial equipment, the application of photometric and colorimetric systems, the automatic feeding of chemicals in production, the development of robotic systems in a chemical laboratory, the energy saving and recycling of large industrial facilities, the implementation of ecological and social standards. As of 2021 he is retired and engaged το his hobbies.

Hobbies - Other activities

Among other activities, he is a second generation photographer, self-taught accordionist and trained cook. He also designs and manufactures automation and 3D printed mechanisms.

Personal life

Andreas Zervas was born in Patras and is the third child of Christos Zervas, professional photographer, and Nikoleta Klavdianos, a clothing designer and seamstress.

His father Christos was born in Patras, 1925, and lived there until his death in 1992. His father's family was born in Asia Minor (Ottoman Empire) and became refugees to Greece after the Population Exchange between Greece and Turkey that followed the Asia Minor disaster of 1922. The family settled in Patras, and his grandfather Apostolos was the owner of a small patisserie. The deeper root of Zervases come from Perachora, Corinthia and before that, from Epirus.

His mother Nikoleta was born in 1931, Lagkadakia, Zakynthos. She was the third child, among a large family of eight siblings, of Andreas Klavdianos and Maria Arvanitaki. Post WWII in 1945, Klavdianos family gradualy moved to Patras, searching for a better life. The 1953 Ionian earthquake totaly destroyed his mother's village in Zakynthos.

Andreas Zervas is married to Maria Dalpi, high school teacher of Chemistry. They have two daughters, Teta - Nikoleta (Nikela) Zervas and Evangelia (Lila) Zervas.

Activism

During his studies in Patras, he was an active member of the Consumer Institute (INKA), Patras branch.

He is interested in the international linguistic and communication problem, as well as global understanding and peace. Being an active Esperantist, member of Helena Esperanto-Asocio and UEA, he tries to help other Greek speakers get to know and be interested in international auxiliary language Esperanto.

In 2023 he participated in the construction team of the Helena Esperanto-Asocio's website (www.esperanto.gr), while he has created and also runs the website of Thessaloniki Esperanto Team (www.thesperanto.eu). In 2024 he translated the 'Esperanto in 12 lessons' page (www.esperanto12.net) into Greek.
