Biraj Bista (Nepali: बिराज विष्ट) is the current Minister of Science and Technology (Nepal) (Nepali:राज्यमन्त्री) of Nepal. He was a current member of Legislature Parliament of Nepal from 2013-2017. He is a member of Central Working Committee of National Democratic Party (RPP-D). He was appointed as an Assistant Minister of Local Development and Federal Affairs.

He is one of the most popular and youngest minister in the government of Nepal and has a large following in various social networking sites. Since, his return back to Nepal in 2000 he has been more grounded in political affairs in Lalitpur District. He has been seen as a fresh and young face in contrast to the usual political landscape dominated by a very young politician who have been in the political centre stage for decades. He was also inclined towards development agendas in 2015.

He is also the member of International Affairs, Labor, Relation and Civil Aviation of the Parliamentary Committee. Nepali people believes that he can lead the nation in an executive role if he is presented with an opportunity.

1. Involvement

He got exposed to politics in early. His father Hon. Keshar Bahadur Bista was also elected as the member of the parliament and held different portfolios in the government. Hon Biraj Bista came back to Nepal while he was doing PhD in Political Science from Seoul National University in South Korea. In 2013, he gave his candidacy for the Second Constituent Assembly Election. In Oct, 2015 he got appointed as an Assistant Minister of Local Development and Federal Affairs. He completed Master’s Degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. He is highly praised as minister among Nepalese youth.

He have looked several issues like relating to transparency, centralizing government data relating to human resources and more then 90 thousand project that run under the ministry. He also have taken up number of cases both inside and outside the parliament and also have been successful in solving a member of issue like Oil Corporation of Nepal, issue of National Health Insurance Policy, Insurance in case of Natural Disaster, Distribution of MRP Passport, Procurement of funds from the various government to various developmental activities such as upgrading kanti highway to lobbying for Nepal’s Largest Hydro project etc.

In April 2014, he got elected as Central Committee Member in National Democratic Party and again in 2017. He is member and trainer in training department of the party.

2. Personal Life

Biraj Bista was born on 31st March,1977. He is first child of Hon. Keshar Bahadur Bista and Minerwa Bista. Dor Bahadur Bista, Father Of Anthropology is his grandfather. He married to Dr. Anjali Basnyat Bista and has two children. He is also involved in family business, social service activities, exploring the flora and fauna of Nepal, popularize different culture of Nepal and likes to read as well.
