Star House - 54 George St, Redfern NSW 2016, Australia
Formerly the Star Hotel. This original two-storey hotel was built Circa 1882. It appears in a photo from this time as a two-storey hotel with the name Star Hotel on its north facade.
At a later time, Circa 1890 a third floor was added and the current façade constructed.
In 1906 a veranda was added, this was later removed sometime between 1949 and 1989.
The building remained as a public house until 1959 when its liquor license was taken to another hotel.
Star Hotel then became a commercial house known as Star House. The building deteriorated over the years until it was purchased in 2010 and underwent extensive renovation.
The renovation project converted the existing state significant heritage listed building into 2 residential apartments, with a home office that reintroduces an active use to the street frontage. The principal building has been retained, and its existing fabric retained, maintained and restored. The internal rooms have been generally used in original configurations, or returned to original configurations. All external openings are retained and restored, and the pavement-spanning front verandah reinstated.
