Anthony Gears MA was born in Hindley near Wigan in 1959 and was educated at Hindley and Abram Grammar school. He did his BA in Drama and American Stduies at Aberystwyth University College of Wales followed by a PGCE in Drama in Education at the City of Birmingham Polytechnic under David Davis. He has taught in Stockton on Tees since 1981 and has an MA from Durham University and an M. Cert from the BFI. He is an AST and the Director of Egglescliffe Arts College. He initiated and has been director of Egglescliffe Youth Theatre since 1984. He has written a number of musicals and has contributed to several academic magazines. He is an associate lecturer of Durham University where he teaches on the PGCE English course. He has suffered from three attacks of oral cancer in the last five years.
