‘’’Life style at the village, impalila island ’’’[edit]
The way people at the village live is very different from those in town. Their way of living is simple and very cheap. They do not pay for electricity as they use lamps, candles or fire and they provide water sources for themselves such as wells orboreholes. The chores they do repeat on a daily basis. However, these chores differ according to the time of the year. The two seasons: winter and summer are the factors that influence village activities.
During summer when there is plenty of rainfall, both older girls and boys wakeup early in the morning and go to their farms. They cultivate using hoes and traditional plowing machines which are dragged by cows or donkeys. They cultivate different types of crops such as mahangu, maize, sorghum, water melons, pumpkins and many more. When these crops grow a little and when the ploughing stops, boys stop going to the farm. The girls start the weeding process. After sometime when crops are ready, they then harvested. During winter, the normal activities are done, girls wakeup early in the morning to clean their yards, fetch water and prepare breakfast for the young and the older ones. Later lunch is prepared and then supper. After dinner then kids seat around the fire with their grandparents telling them stories. If they are not listening to stories, they will be outside playing games. This is also the time when fields are being cleared and this is done by boys.
