Education in Mongolia is one of the priorities of Mongolia’s domestic policy. To date, illiteracy in the country has been almost completely destroyed, thanks to the creation of seasonal boarding schools for children from nomadic families (in 2003 the illiterate population in Mongolia was 2%).
Ten-year education was compulsory for all children from 6 to 16 years old (six of them are elementary school). Compulsory schooling, however, was extended by two years for all first-graders in the 2008-2009 school year. The new system, therefore, will not be fully operational until the academic year 2019-2020. In addition, vocational training courses are offered for young people aged 16-18. Today, there are seven universities in Mongolia. Mongolian State University in Ulaanbaatar, founded in 1942 - the largest and oldest university in the country; in 2006 about 12,000 students studied there.
History of Education in Mongolia
[edit]In 1952, an agreement was signed between the USSR and the MNR “On the education of citizens of the Mongolian People's Republic in higher educational institutions of the USSR”, according to which the Soviet side assumed the obligation to pay 50% of the total costs of training Mongolian citizens. In just ten years, from 1951 to 1961, 410 specialists for Mongolia were trained at universities in the Soviet Union. Since 1960, the training of specialists for the Mongolian national economy began to acquire a mass character. This was primarily due to the fact that in Mongolia, with the development of industry, there was a great shortage of qualified personnel.
In October 1960, an agreement was signed between the governments of the USSR and the Mongolian People's Republic on conditions for the mutual training of undergraduate and graduate students in higher civil and research institutions. This agreement noted that the cost of training visitors, as well as providing them with a hostel, free medical care is at the expense of the host country and is made on the same conditions as students and graduate students - citizens of their country.
By 1960, Mongolian citizens were trained by 148 higher education institutions in 19 cities of the Soviet Union. A significant increase in the number of Mongolian students in USSR universities was observed in the 1970s. So, if in the 1960–1961 academic year, 2,083 undergraduate and graduate students were enrolled, then in the late 1970s. - more than 3 thousand..[1][2][3][4]
Education
[edit]Shortage of places in state kindergartens. Therefore, private kindergartens - as a lifeline. • According to regulations, no more than twenty people are allowed in a group, but this rule has not been fulfilled for a long time in public gardens. In Ulan Bator, there are up to thirty children in a group, and in the province even forty-five. Therefore, many parents are trying to send their children to private kindergartens. • All gardens must be in Mongolian. But parents, as a rule, give their children to private gardens for the purpose of learning foreign languages.
