MERA 7900 – a system and series of screen monitors manufactured at the Mera-Elzab Computer Devices Plant in Zabrze . Monitors also made it possible to connect input devices such as a keyboard , light pen or printer , creating a family of terminals intended for cooperation with computer systems . Such a system consisted of a control unit, a monitor: dependent or independent, and the above-mentioned input devices  . Production was launched under licensethe Swedish company Stansaab Elektronik AB purchased in 1976-1977 . The monitors allowed the user to select the screen color and adjust the light intensity  .

The system consisted of the following devices  :

  • monitors:
    • MERA 7910 (RIAD reference: EC-7917): dependent monitor,
    • MERA 7950 (RIAD reference: EC-7915): stand-alone monitor,
  • control units, i.e. devices enabling connection and communication with a computer system:
    • MERA 7901 (RIAD designation: EC-7911): remote unit connected via modem ,
    • MERA 7902 (RIAD code: EC-7912): local unit connected directly to the computer channel,
  • MERA 7903, MERA 7931, MERA 7932, MERA 7933, MERA 7934: modules and adapters installed in MERA 7901 or MERA 7902 control units, extending the capabilities of the control units or enabling the connection of specific devices of the MERA 7900 system,
  • MERA 7971 (RIAD code: EC-7914): printer (DZM 180 RO), connected to the MERA 7950 stand-alone monitor (screen content printing) or via MERA 7901, MERA 7902 control units to a computer system (printing from a computer),
  • MERA 7940: keyboard connected to MERA 7910 or MERA 7950 monitors (cable length 1 m ),
  • MERA 7940: optical reader for special punched cards,
  • MERA 7941: light pen.

Terminals based on the MERA 7900 monitor system were used, among others, in large MAINFRAME computers such as IBM 360 , IBM 370 , JS EMC (RIAD)  . In the following years, the system was developed and adapted to other computers , including minicomputers . Subsequent models and system elements received new markings consistent with the series designation, e.g. MERA-7952, MERA-7953, MERA 7911 D. It is estimated that about half of the monitors produced were exported  .
