The Big Five Publishers is a term that refers to the top five trade book publishers that together generate a majority of the revenue and titles for the industry. The five publishers that make up the Big Five are Penguin Random House, Macmillan, HarperCollins, Hachette and Simon & Schuster.[1] Prior to 2013, Penguin and Random House were separate companies and the Big Five was then known as the Big Six.[2]
