Non-English source caveat

[edit]

Granted, I might not find these on English websites, and also wouldn't know which ones are reliable. This is the difficulty with dealing with potentially notable subjects covered in predominantly non-English sources. However, no persuasive arguments have been forthcoming either.

Red link navs with no article

[edit]
  • Delete Fails WP:EXISTING with only one blue link. Fails WP:NAVBOX No. 4: "There should be a Wikipedia article on the subject of the template." A standalone list that meets WP:LISTN is needed to establish notability of this grouping. Existence of navboxes like this just encourages others to copy and create more non-notable ones.

Navs with no article

[edit]

Delete: Fails WP:NAVBOX No. 4: "There should be a Wikipedia article on the subject of the template." At a minimum, whether the article is immediately created or not, the list should be demonstrated to meet WP:LISTN, which would require independent coverage and rule out affiliated organizations as a source. Even if the page is created, I'm more of the thinking that a reader can generally click through to the link in the article if they want to see the other members. Projects WikiProjects need to develop more internal guidance on being more selective to avoid template creep

Non-medaling national team navboxes

[edit]

Delete all per WP:TCREEP. Teams that do not earn a medal do not need the Wikipedia equivalent of a participation trophy. Also consistent with prior TfDs such as Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2016_December_29#Template:Slovenia_Squad_2010_FIBA_World_Championship.

Non-notable league's championship navboxes

Rivalries

[edit]

Fails WP:GNG with lack of significant coverage in multiple, independent sources. The biggest issue is that it fails the guideline WP:WHYN, namely that multiple sources are needed "so that we can write a fair and balanced article that complies with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy ..." Otherwise, editors will just cherry-pick facts from routine coverage in recaps of individual games, as opposed to independent sources that look at the rivalry as a whole. Moreover, routine coverage liberally uses the term rivalry to manufacture hype. At this point, it looks like calling this a "rivalry" is WP:OR.

WHYN

[edit]

Per WP:WHYN, significant coverage is needed "so that we can actually write a whole article, rather than half a paragraph or a definition of that topic." This is not encyclopedic enough to WP:IAR and keep an article that will never be more useful than a stub with past stints listed.
