Slut Shaming can be caused by the way people are dress the way they may act with the opposite sex or toward the same sex depending on their sexual orientation. But slut shaming with social media and the internet is s new level of a way people are able to bully and slut shame their target.
Image/Video
With a click of a button on your smart phone people are able to capture a moment. A women can dress a certain way and upload it on social media and it can be taken out of context and spread to other that will slut shame them for the way they are dressed or even something they did not mean to post. Picture can be taken for significant others and be sent to them, that significant other can and possibly share the photo with others to share thinking nothing of it and can cause a people to judge the person for one photo that was meant for one person only.
This also goes for video taking. Lot of young couple want to make videos of them doing the act and it seem fine in the moment. But it can lead to an argument or even a messy break up. Sometimes the significant other shares the video to a friend not think they would share it beyond themselves, but also a lot of ex significant other might share it as revenge. This can cause a drastic effect of people talking about the person for what they did and a lot of people might have even looked at the photo or video and start slut shaming them for what they saw that wasn't for them.
This all spreads through social media/text. With technology a lot of information is spread within seconds and hard to delete information on social media once it is out. Social media put a new name on slut shamming where it is much easier to judge person from what is being passed around and what they see only on social media even if its a photo or video that wasn't meant to be put out.
Effects
There aren't a lot of consequences when it comes to slut shamming a person but there are a lot of effects when the person is getting slut shammed. That can very depending on the severity of the situation. But it can cause lot of mental issues where they go through a depressive stage, develop anxiety and even suicidal thoughts or actions. Slut shamming isn't to take lightly and is a for of bullying, majority of people that are being slut shammed also develop body dysmorphia where they do not like the way they look and try hiding themselves as much as they possibly can where they are comfortable.
