Born on 30 March 1967 in Johannesburg. Basil has lived in Johannesburg his whole life.

Studies : Matricualted in 1985 with full exemption Completed National Diploma in Computers in 1988 and started work Completed National Higher Diploma in Computers and Management on a part-time basis

Work : Joined Liquid Air in 1988 and worked there as a programmer and systems administrator for just over 6 years. Then worked at Sappi for just over 2 years as a project manager for management information systems (MIS). Then join Gentia Software which was a UK based MIS company as project manager and systems integrator. Thereafter become self employed doing consulting work and software development. Basil is the owner of Ellada Computer Systems that was formed in 1994, and has developed many software packages including point of sale, satellite tracking, and financing and leasing. In 1999 Basil specialised in freight software and developed a "FreightFocus" (www.ffpro.co.za) which is used by 40 courier and freight companies throughout South Africa and in Lusaka (Zambia).

Sport : Played tennis, soccer and hockey as a child; then played golf for 10 years from 1997. Basil loves water sports and can slalom ski, boogie board and kite surf. His passion is speed kiting and has been 52.35 knots on a kite-board. He administers a speedkiting site (www.speedkiting.org)
