Aitor Arregi Galdos (born 20 May 1977) is a Spanish Basque filmmaker, screenwriter, and audiovisual communication lecturer. He won the Goya Award for Best Original Screenplay for the 2017 film Giant and has been nominated for the Goya Award for Best Director twice, for Giant and The Endless Trench (2019).

Biography[edit]

Arregi was born in Oñati, located in the province of Gipuzkoa in the autonomous community of the Basque Country in northern Spain. After graduating in Business Administration from Mondragon University, he studied a course in Filmmaking at Sarobe Centro de Artes Escénicas.

In 2002, Arregi started the film production company Moriarti Produkzioak together with Asier Acha, Xabier Berzosa, Jon Garaño, Jorge Gil, and Jose Maria Goenaga. The company is headquartered in Pasaia, in the metropolitan area of San Sebastián. The productions of Moriarti Produkzioak are characterised for their teaming work, also in directing roles, and for the switching of roles between the members.
