Holdt Court Classic[edit]

Holdt Court Classic or Holdt Ball Tournament as it is usually referred to as is an annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament located in Kurt Holdt's backyard in Ridgefield, Washington. The Holdt Ball tournament was created mostly by students from the graduating class of 1999 at Ridgefield High School. These individuals are known as the founding fathers of the Holdt Ball tournament. It is up to the founding fathers for whom are chosen to be allowed to experience the greatness of the Holdt Ball. The founding fathers include Shawn Lee, Greg Gertsen, Brandon Cantu, Will Reidlinger, Josh Gertsen, Nathan Royle, Chris Morse and Jermaine Boddie. Players from all around the world come to play. Although Kurt Holdt (Sponsor of the Holdt Court) built the Holdt Court for his son, Kurt's son has never participated in the tournament. 2012 became the first year that the tournament has not been held. The tournament is currently on hiatus.

The Draft[edit]

The Draft has had different formats in the way captains are picked. The current format is that captains are decided by everyone's vote on whom they think is the worst. The player with the most votes becomes first captain to choose their pick and the second worst gets the second pick and so on. The picks start with the first captain and then circles around until the first captain gets whoever is left in the draft. This ensures an evenness of teams and creates a higher level of competition. After the captains are decided, they come together privately and choose their picks with no outside influence, most of the time.

Stats and Score Keeping[edit]

Score tends to change every year as to accommodate for more or less teams. Baskets are either two or three points with no free throws for fouls. All stat and score keeping is done by Kathleen Paulson. Along with most of the founding fathers, Kathleen Paulson graduated from RIdgefield's class of 1999. Stats become very important when captains look to choose their players for their team. Stats usually shows at least points and rebounds. Other stats may include assists, steals, dunks, turnovers, and WTF plays. WTF plays is when a player does something that is intentionally stupid or goes for too much and fails miserably. Score is recorded by Paulson as to avoid arguments of score, which moves the tournaments along more smoothly. In the last couple years, technology has advanced enough to allow for video replay for disputes that cannot be solved by arguing. Stats also contribute to Joe Leadingham's power rankings.

Joe's Power Rankings[edit]

Joe Leadingham is in charge of providing the power rankings before the draft begins. Joe uses his knowledge of basketball and analyzes each player to create a list of the players ranked from best to worst. The power rankings also include of each player's NBA comparison as to give you a sense of the players style of game. This becomes important as captains have to make tough picks and have to consult the power rankings to make a decision. The power rankings are a result of the player's past history, but more importantly the previous Holdt Court Classic tournament.
