DR PHUTI THELMA MANGENA[edit]

Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena(nee’ Moloto) (born 11 February 1977) is a founder and president of the organization called Eureka mentorship programme.

She is again a certified self-employed medical practitioner. She was born in Moletjie, Ga-Rampuru, Polokwane, Limpopo Province in South Africa.

She is a proud black woman who stands high up for the rights of divine health and success for young boys and girls from the townships.

Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena is a qualified medical practitioner with qualifications such as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery

(MBChB). Her qualifications led her to open her own medical practice which has lived for over 13 years. She saw an opportunity to motivate,

inspire and groom young boys and girls from high schools by being a founder and president of an organisation called Eureka mentorship

programme.Through her hard work and passion of seeing young people succeed she obtained Gauteng Women Excellence Award in the year 2018.[1]



Early life[edit]

Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena (Moloto) was born in Moletjie, Ga-Rampuru, Polokwane, Limpopo Province in South Africa. She comes from a family of 3 and she is the eldest in her family. Her mother semi-adopted 3 other young children from the village and raised them and took them to university as well. She grew up in home where education was taken very seriously. She has always and is still motivated by her mother Mrs Morafi Moloto who is also her role model. Mrs Moloto has always strived to change the lives of her community, she is a registered nurse within her community and has always ensured that her neighbours never go to bed hungry. She became the solace for advice especially regarding education and she has assisted multiple people from the village be professionals. The 3 young people she took under her wing as her own are all orphaned but hold positions as IT specialist, MBChB graduate and LLB graduate. She is inspired and motivated by her Mother.

Education[edit]

Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena (Moloto) started her primary studies at the Ga-Rampuru primary school, then continued to her secondary studies at Motse Maria High school. In the year 1994 Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena (Moloto) left Limpopo, South Africa to the mother city in Cape Town, South Africa to further her studies. Dr Phuti Mangena was motivated to study at UCT for MBChB as it was said to be amongst the best in the world. Coming from a small rural village which is literally unknown, she wanted to be the best and be counted amongst the best in her field. She studied medicine and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree by the year 2001.In 2011 she continued with her postgraduate studies were she obtained a Diploma in Health Economics by the year 2012 from University of Cape Town. In 2017 she earned a certificate in Aviation Medical Examiner Course from the University Of Pretoria, South Africa.

Relationship[edit]

Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena is married to Kedibone Mangena. Their marriage is blessed with three beautiful children.

Career[2][edit]

Dr Mangena’s first work experience was at Sebokeng Hospital where she started as an intern medical doctor in the year 2002. She then joined Johannesburg Hospital as a community service medical officer by the year 2003. By the year 2004 at the same hospital, Johannesburg Hospital where she held a position of a medical officer. Driven by the passion of the necessity of primary care medicine and ensuring that quality healthcare becomes widely accessible. She opened her own medical practice which has lived for over 13 years and still counting. She later joined Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality were she held a sessional medical officer position. As she stands today she is a proud Medical Practitioner and a self -employed Doctor.

Eureka Mentorship Programme is an organisation which was founded in 2008. The aim is to mentor potentially talented high school students so that they can realize their goals and dream[4]. A mother to more than 100 learners is a very huge responsibility, but to Dr Mangena, that has become her second job in life. Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena is a proud mother of boys and girls around the township of Ivory Park in Midrand. She is the founder and the president of the Eureka Mentorship programme. The mentorship programme is based at Ivory Park, its main focus is on high schools. The programme identifies learners with a hunger to achieve big in life and giving a platform to achieve their goals. The program so far has helped over 500 learners and continues to make a difference in more lives. The organization is divided into different fields were learners in turn give back to their community, firstly by helping elderly people at Dimamas and Papas where it is a centre for elderly people. There are also projects such as Eu-Care were they collect sanitary towels and distribute specifically to primary school girls and some toiletries such as roll on deodorants for the young boys. Another project inside Eureka deals with the aim to improve literacy by collecting books and distributing them to schools. As proud as the organization is, it is pleased to announce that it has alumni graduates from Chartered accountants, Medical doctors, Engineers, IT specialist and the list is endless. Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena stand proud of the organization where her name has also changed to “Mama” because of the good things she does.Dr Phuti Thelma Mangena’s passion of helping people extends through being a vice chairperson and secretary at the Ithuseng centre for persons with disabilities.

Selected awards[5][edit]

Dr Mangena was awarded an award for Community Heroine Award at the inaugural Gauteng Women Excellence Awards hosted by the Gauteng Premier Mr David Makhura in the year 2018. This is for the selfless work she does for Eureka Mentorship Programme and the tireless mission of changing lives of young South Africans.
