Kozy Korpesh — Bayan Sulu — Kazakh lyric-epic poem of the XIII — XIV centuries, recorded in the mid-nineteenth century. The poem was known in oral versions performed by akyns Sybanbai, Bekbau, Zhanak, Shozhe. From about 20 options the most well-known option Janak. In the written version, the most common versions recorded by collectors of folklore Sablukov (1831), G. Derbisalin (1834), A. Frolov (1841), CH. Valikhanov (1856). In Russian, the poem was published by M. Putin in 1865, then was included in the third volume of the collection of V. Radlov "Samples of folk literature of the Turkic tribes" of 1870.

Plot

An ancient legend about the tragic love of the Goat Korpesh and Bayan Sulu says: some friends from childhood Sarybay and Karabay vowed to marry their children, who were betrothed before they were born. Not waiting for the birth of a son, dies while hunting Sarybay. The young Goats and Bayan, who had not yet seen each other, but were bound by the bonds of the marriage contract, finally fell in love with each other. Time passes, and Karabay changes life plans. He promises to give his daughter to the local paluan Kodar, who once saved his flock from jute. Kodar becomes a barrier between the lovers. In this eternal triangle the first has combined a violent head of a Goat. She wanted to revenge on the killer, resorted to trickery. She promises to marry Hodor if he digs a well for her with spring water. Kodar gets to work, going deeper and deeper, holding the long braids of Bayan. Girl suddenly cuts off streamer: left in well Kodar dies. Thereby Goats avenged. On his grave the heroine of the legend stabs herself with a dagger.

Research and translations

The poem "Goats Korpesh — Bayan Sulu" interested A. S. Pushkin during his visit to Orenburg in order to collect information about the peasant uprising led by E. I. Pugachev for the "History of the Pugachev rebellion" and the story "captain's daughter". Later in his archive found the poem, its text was published in 1837 in the "Bulletin of the Pushkin Commission." The writing on the five sheets was made by the hand of an unknown person. Pushkin's record is slightly at odds with the common version. The local history from oral Nikolay Chesnokov argues that the poem recorded Yaik Cossack, who owned the Kazakh language. However, it is likely that the great Russian poet of the Kazakh poem was recorded by people from rates of bukey Khan of the Younger Zhuz, who have a good command of the Russian language. There is an assumption that on the basis of "Goat Korpesh — Bayan Sulu" Pushkin intended to write his own poem, but he was prevented by early death.

The poem was highly appreciated by S. A. Castanier, N. A. Abramov and other scientists. In the prose in the Russian language poem published folklorists N. N. Pantusov, R. Sh. Abdurakhmanov, E. Z. Baranov. The Russian poet G. N. was engaged in its first translation into Russian, which was published in 1928, 1941 and 1949. Tveritin. During the Soviet period, M. Auezov published a version of Zhanak first in 1925 in Moscow, then in 1936 in Alma-ATA.

The historical significance of the poem was studied by M. Gabdullin, I. Duisenbaev, A. Konyratbaev. According to them, the specific names of the area, rivers (Ayaguz, Urjar, Leps, Kolba) indicate the real historical conditions of the formation of the epic. In the East Kazakhstan region in Ayaguz district near tansyk station there is a monument, which is called the grave of a Goat and Bayan. There are about 20 variants of this poem.

Analogues and processing

In the folklore of some Turkic peoples there are other versions of the poem. For example, Bashkirs it is called "Uykbs Mann Manilio", the Baraba Tatars - "Kozy Korpesh", the Altai people - "Goats in Arches".

On the basis of the poem was created in the play "Kozy Korpesh — Bayan Sulu" by G. Musrepov, M., the film "love Poem" in 1954, according to the scenario Musrepov.

In 1992, the famous Kazakh Director and actor Asanali Ashimov made the film "Goats Korpesh — Bayan Sulu".

In 2011 in Kazakhstan as an alternative to Valentine's day offered its date — April 15, dedicated to the Goats Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu.
