Phishing

Although Wikipedia is run by volunteers who do not charge for their time, there is some acceptance within the community of paid editors. Paid editors recieve renumeration from clients in return for editing Wikipedia, typically to add links to a client's website or to write about the client or their organisation. Although this is tolerated, it is only accepted when the paid editor meets a specific set of criteria. The vast majority of people being paid to edit Wikipedia do not meet the requirements, and therefore their paid work is frequently deleted with potential financial implications for the client.

Paid editing can be direct, where the editor is paid specifically to edit Wikipedia on behalf of the client, or indirect, where they are employed to promote the client but editing Wikipedia is not their primary role. If the editor is not paid to edit Wikipedia, but is nevertheless connected to the subject, this is Conflict of Interest editing, and comes under a similar set of rules.
