Overview
[edit]The most powerful sedan built by AMG, the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is also Mercedes most expensive sedan, but comes with a list of standard features and options that is quite literally as long as the car itself.
General Information
[edit]The first generation S65 AMG came in 2006 sporting a slightly smaller V12 engine than it does today. In 2006, AMG fitted the S65 with a 6.0L V12 engine producing around 590 hp (440 kW), and around 610 lb⋅ft (830 N⋅m) of torque. Today, the S65 AMG’s twin turbocharged V12 produces 604 hp (450 kW), and 738 lb⋅ft (1,001 N⋅m) of torque.

Performance Information
[edit]Engine
[edit]As aforementioned, the S65 AMG has a 6.0L twin turbocharged V12 engine producing 604 hp (450 kW), and 738 lb⋅ft (1,001 N⋅m) of torque. These numbers make this engine the most powerful engine in a Mercedes sedan. The S65 AMG’s engine would theoretically put it within league of vehicles such as the Lamborghini Estouque, and puts it out of the league of vehicles such as the Cadillac CTS-V and Jaguar XFR.
Transmission
[edit]As with “65” AMG vehicles (Mercedes CL65 AMG, Mercedes CLS65 AMG, and Mercedes SL65 AMG), the S65 AMG will feature a five-speed automatic transmission, as the seven-speed Gtronic transmission cannot cope with the power output from the V12.
Performance Specs
[edit]- Engine: 6.0L V12 producing 604 hp (450 kW) and 738 lb⋅ft (1,001 N⋅m) of torque
- Valvetrain: Four valves per cylinder
- Transmission: Five speed automatic
- 0-60mph: 3.7 seconds
- Top speed: 186mph (limiter on); 204mph (limiter off)
Design
[edit]Exterior
[edit]On the outside, much of the styling of the S65 AMG is drawn from the current S-Class design. However, the S65 gets 20” AMG rims shod with P255/35R20 tires in the front, and P275/35R20 high performance tires in the rear.
Exterior Features
[edit]The S65 has an extensive list of exterior features (though not as impressive as its list of interior features), including:
- Bi-Xenon automatic headlamps featuring automatic level (brightness) control, and heated headlamp washers
- Auto folding heated side mirrors with position memory, auto dimming driver mirror, and integrated LED turn-signal lights.
- Infrared reflecting and noise reducing windows
- Rain sensing windshield wipers with heated washer fluid system
Interior
[edit]Interior Features
[edit]The S65 AMG arrives on sale in the United States with what could possibly be the longest list of interior features of any vehicle on the North American Auto Market, save possibly the Mercedes CL65 AMG. This list includes, but is not limited to
- Automatic rear door closing system
- Power driver/front passenger seats with automatic heating and adjustable lumbar support
- Floor and overhead located center console unit
- Height adjustable 3-point seatbelt reel
- Coming Home system (e.g. program home alarm/security system(s), garage door opener, light switch (exterior house lights))
- Rear seat DVD entertainment systems with individual AUX and USB jacks
- Front and rear seat ashtrays w/ cigar lighters
