Aileron Aviation, Inc. is a flight training and aircraft rental company based at the Upper-Cumberland Regional Airport (UCRA).
History
[edit]Aileron Aviation was incorporated in April 2018[1]. M. Clay Atkins, who had entrepreneurial experience in and out of the aviation industry, in partnership with family began business development that same month. Aileron Aviation was born from a dream to build an new regional airline by starting at the basics of renting airplanes and teaching people to fly. The company's business plan calls for establishing an FAA Part 141 flight school, expanding the rental fleet to enable diverse pilot skill development and obtaining an FAA Part 135 On-Demand Charter certificate. The horizon goals include scheduled service.
Fleet
[edit]Aileron Aviation currently provides a 1978 Cessna 172N for rent. Uncommon to this model, the aircraft has a two-axis autopilot and air conditioner. This will be standard equipment for all aircraft of this category.
Services
[edit]Aircraft Rental
[edit]A service of Aileron Aviation is aircraft rental, which is a natural, adjoining service for flight schools. Students need aircraft to fly and offering rental to non-students diversifies the revenue opportunities for an aircraft and increases the dimensions of the relationship with the customer base.
Flight Training
[edit]Flight training is a primary service for Aileron Aviation. From a revenue perspective, flight training represents direct income for a flight school and drives secondary income from aircraft rental. Strategic for all flight school, flight training also provides a pipeline of pilots who will fill the role of teacher for future students. It is a natural evolution for a new pilot to start as a student, earn a private pilot certificate, earn an instructors certificate, begin teaching and after obtaining sufficient experience through teaching to then move on to fly for an air charter company, an airline or take other types of commercial work as a pilot. Particular to Aileron Aviations strategy, some of the student pilots will someday fly the larger aircraft that will be purchase for Part 135 On-Demand charter.
Aileron Aviation will initially provide flight training under the authority of FAA Part 61[2], but with the objective of obtaining an FAA Part 141 Flight School certificate[3].
