Livid Records is an independent record label founded in 2006 by Chuck Livid and based in Boca Raton, Florida. Initially, Livid was a vehicle to release his band, (The Shrubs’) recordings. After the breakup of the Shrubs, the label expanded to include other punk rock bands. The Miami New Times said that Livid has been "slowly but steadily releasing some of the better Florida (and beyond) rock records" [1]
The first record released by Livid Records was a Shrubs CD-R EP called “… Are Fucking Dead”. That release was followed by Switzerland’s Daze’s “Slow Down To Speed Up” which was received with mixed reviews in the U.S., but, sold over 2,000 copies in Daze’s homeland of Switzerland.
By the end of 2007 Livid Records released Sarasota, Florida’s The Illustrated’s first album “Alphabaggage”. The record was well received by the independent media.[2]
In 2009 San Diego, California's Jon Cougar Concentration Camp was brought out of a 7 year hiatus to record a tribute of Screeching Weasel’s “My Brain Hurts" named “My Hair Hurts”.
Glocca Morra’s “The Walking Bones, A Health Decline” was released in mid 2009 and received positive reviews. AltSounds[3] said the record was “engaging and even beautiful”. Decoy Music[4] said “The Working Bones, a Health Decline is a great example of how to put together a short, but not too short, and quirky, but not too quirky, album of indie rock”. The album was nominated for album of the year for 2009 by the Independent Music Awards[5].
By the end of 2009 Livid Records released albums by San Diego, California’s Stoner Rock band End of Power and Pop Punk icon Geoff Useless.
In 2010, Livid Records concentrated on established South Florida bands and released The Crumbs’ “Gator Kicks”, Furious Dudes “Florida Sucks”, Lil Daggers “King Corpse” 7”, Space Station 5 “If This Doesn’t Mean The World To You” and Pool Party’s “Pool Party Yeah! A Complete Anthology” which received a favorable review from the Miami New Times[6]
Livid is currently working on its schedule for 2011 which includes releases by New Hampshire’s Geoff Useless, Miami, Florida’s The Getback and Bulletproof Tiger and two Canadian bands Zero Cool and Pine Tarts.
Livid has also announced branching into the publishing world in 2011.
