Cécile Bourne Farrell

Cécile Bourne-Farrell[edit]

She was born in the Dauphiné from a German mother (Ingrid Cloppenburg) and French father (Michel Bourne), both landscape designers who introduced her to a certain consciousness towards public space and its uses through time. She attended school in Grenoble, at Boisfleury, La Tronche and the Ecole du Louvre (1984-1987), Ecole des Médiateurs du Centre National d’Art Contemporain de Grenoble (1988). She reclaims her curatorial skills from the multiple internships and collaborations experienced since 1988: she was the coordinator of Fareed Armaly’s show in Saint-Etienne (curated by Y. Aupetitallot); she also worked as Franz Kaiser’s assistant for the exhibition ‘Meltem’ (with Lothar Baumgarten, Jannis Kounelis, Soll Lewitt), in Oiron castle and for ‘Le Diaphane’, in Tourcoing (curated by Denys Zacharopoulos). In 1988/89 she worked for Marga Paz gallery, Madrid, as the production coordinator for the works of Rodney Graham, Juan Muñoz, Antoni Muntadas.

Curator and advisor for public and private structures, she has excellent connections in the field of international contemporary art worldwide. She is setting up projects linked with the complexity and diversity of our cultures, be it in the suburbs of Paris, Berlin, Johannesburg or Mumbaï, convinced that our cultural institutions have to restitute to the public another way of working with contemporary artists, as well as other ways of dealing with Culture: Art is not an object of Tourism and consumerism, but of emancipation (more on: Chooseone ) Based in London since 2013, she is an active member of Aica, C-E-A, Ikt international as well as an Advisor for AIC in 2004, in AIA 2006 and from Oct. 09 till Jan. 2010. She was also coordinator at Drac Ile de France & for the CNAP (2002-08), Comittee member of the Fondation Nmac/Montenmedio, Spain (2003-01) and of Le Pavillon, Palais de Tokyo, Paris. (2008-07). From 2003 until 2008 she was the cultural mediator for the implementation of the methodology of the New Patrons, Spain, and since 2013 for the suburbs of Paris, in collaboration with Mari Linnman.
