Richard Leeman, born in 1970 in Levallois-Perret, is a French art historian.

After studying literature, linguistics and art history at the University of Paris X Nanterre, he obtened his Ph.D, devoted to the American artist Cy Twombly, in 1999. He began teaching in Nanterre (1994-1999), then Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne ("Saint-Charles") (1999-2001), and in Bordeaux University where he was elected lecturer in 2001. He created the academic journal 20/21.siècles (2004-2007, 6 issues)[1]. He was appointed scientific advisor to the Institut national d'histoire de l'art (2004-2009). Since 2012, he is professor at Bordeaux Montaigne in the Arts Department, which he directed from 2014 to 2018. In 2013, he created the "Seminar on today's art", a place for meetings and research on contemporary art[2].

Richard Leeman created in 2013 the "seminar on today's art", a master's and doctoral seminar at Bordeaux Montaigne University. Housed at the CAPC, the seminar is open to a wider audience. Since its creation, the seminar has welcomed more than sixty guests: artists (Claude Lévêque, Éric Duyckaert, Valérie Jouve, Matthieu Laurette, Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux, Francine Flandrin, Fabrice Hyber, Léa Le Bricomte, Barthélémy Toguo, Yann Toma, Bruno Perramant. ..), critics (Tristan Trémeau, Vincent Pécoil, Rachel Stella, Zahia Rahmani...), art historians (Serge Guilbaut, Régis Michel, Robert Fleck, Elvan Zabunyan, Marie-Laure Allain-Bonilla...).
