The jury is still out as to what the Australian flag should look like — that’s if the flag were ever to be changed...!
In the meantime here are some suggestions and design options for a new Australian flag.

Designing a national flag is no easy challenge. The task is to symbolise an entire nation with
a few colours and some simple geometric shapes.

The principle and dominant design feature of all the design options draws inspiration from ancient Aboriginal astronomy of the constellation Crux or the Southern Cross, a shared and unifying celestial object revered in both the indigenous and settler cultures. My design concepts are based on our geographic location, regional identity, shared history and common values. With this in mind, the designs are simple and distinctive, making them unique and unmistakable. I believe the following designs reflect our history, our institutions and the Australian character, representing all of us equally in an inclusive, vibrant and modern society.

The debate for the flag should be kept separate from the debate for a republic. Canada in 1965 like some other Commonwealth countries changed there flag while still retaining the constitutional monarchy and the Queen as the Head of State.

  1. DESIGN INSPIRATION AND ORIGINS
...our Indigenous pride and tradition.

This flag will announce clearly and unmistakably
our identity to the world as well as to ourselves.
It will be recognised internationally and will not be confused with the flags of other nations.
The design symbolises our entire nation and its people, its past, present and future, its diversity, achievements and its hopes and aspirations.
