The Greer Effect is a paranormal phenomenon where previously tested and functional systems exhibit unexplained and transient issues. The phenomenon is commonly associated with rogue Product Mangers.

The Greer Effect has been known to impact the electronics industry but has far reaching implications throughout engineering disciplines.

History of the Greer Effect[edit]

until the late 20th century the Greer effect was largely unknown. Victorian Engineer Socrates Jeremiah Forger was often heard to blame failures of his projects such as the Dapplehagen suspension bridge on "Ephemeral complications of mechanical demons", this is now seen as one of the an earliest reports of the Greer effect.

During WW2, Allied pilots often blamed intermittent aircraft problems on 'Gremlins', this may also have been an early precursor to the Greer effect.

In the latter decades of the 20th century Sporadic reports of the Greer effect began to emerge from the country of Scotland, since then it has expanded until it is now a global phenomenon.

The Greer effect has often been cited by figures within the SMT industry as one of the top contributors to reduced production capacity.
