Marsha Mason

[edit]

Marsha Mason[1] (August 7th, 1972) is a Canadian[2] actor and performer. Her first IMDB credit was accidentally assigned to Marsha Mason[3]. To be fair, Mason does sometimes get her fan mail.

Early Career

[edit]

As a child, Mason was enrolled in ballet and jazz lessons which then led to theatre arts classes, at both her local library and in Mountainview church’s recreation space. Her theatre arts program performed every year in Brock University’s small, black box theatre in the basement. Her first musical was Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

As a teen she performed with community theatre groups such as the Quad Players in Buffalo, NY, as well as the Firehall Players in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  In high school, along with choir and a brief stint as a cheerleader, Mason appeared in three of their musicals.

Her last one, in her senior year, moved from the gym to the Brock University main theatre, where she played Mary Magdalene to Rich Moore’s[4] Jesus and Jesse Stull’s Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Later Career

[edit]

After graduating with an Honours BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Windsor[5], Mason moved to Toronto. Her first audition for the Second City[6] was in 1997. In 1998, Marsha became a swing for the Second City Touring Company and in she 1999 originated the role of Marina Galino in the Toronto Premiere of Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding[7], directed by Jay Leggett[8] (In Living Color[9]).  Mason’s show partner, Mark De Angelis, is now a multi award winning writer and showrunner whose work on Odd Squad has earned him multiple Emmy awards.

In 2004 Mason became an understudy for The Second City Touring Company under the wing of Bob Martin[10] (The Drowsy Chaperone, The Prom). She toured in shows such as “Generation X-Files”, “Canadian Idle”, and “The Hockey Show”.

During summers, Mason also appeared in number of summer stock productions. She starred as The Girl in The Seven Year[11], along with Neil Simon[12]’s The Odd Couple, as well as a charming show called “The Perils of Persephone”, written by Stephen Leacock[13] winner Dan Needles[14].  Needles, saying that Mason was what was running around in his head when created Skip Fuller, wrote a role in his new show, The Belles of Larkspur, for her.

During her career Mason has appeared in a vast number of commercials. Her on screen credits [15]include My Babysitter’s a Vampire[16], Odd Squad[17], Republic of Doyle[18], Mayday[19], 11.22.63 and Polar[20]. She has also recorded her first audiobook, a children’s book about the Winnipeg general strike called Papergirl by Melinda McCracken.[21]

To date, Mason has performed with a series incredible actors, including Mads Mikkelsen[22], Vanessa Hudgens[23], Lauren Ash[24], Odette Annable[25], Dave Annable[26], Nick Cordero[27], Paul Nolan[28] and Natalie Brown[29].
