Layout[edit]

For development[edit]

Consider splitting a page's development section only if it fulfils both these criterion: (1) the development section is disproportionately long (~60% or more of readable prose length) and creates a size issue, and; (2) the topic of development has independent notability. The parent article can then use summary style. If the second criteria is not met, consider condensing the development section instead.

  • Lead section: An opening sentence such as "The development of Half-Life 3 began after the release of its predecessor", "Approximately five people developed Half-Life 3 over a 10,000-year period", "Half-Life 3 was noted for its lengthy/protracted/controversial development" or similar. Remember to avoid links in the boldface reiteration of the title. The gameplay genre, release date, platform, and other identifying information of the game should be established afterwards. Then, a brief overview of the development and/or promotional effort for the game.
  • Infobox: Most articles on development should have an infobox omitted.
  • History: Provide an overview of the game's development, with relevant dates outlining key milestones during development.
  • Game engine: Discuss the game engine used and how it was implemented during development, challenges therein etc.
  • Art/graphics design: Discuss the game's overall aesthetic and graphics/presentation, with any relevant influences/inspirations.
  • Gameplay design: Discuss core gameplay concepts and how they were designed.
  • Story/character development: Discuss the writing, casting and/or recording process for the game's story, characters and themes.
  • Music production: Discuss licensed music use and/or original score, the production and recording process, and any notable artists/producers who were involved.
  • Release/marketing: Discuss the release and distribution of the game, along with any notable marketing strategies, special editions, re-releases, compilations etc.
  • Post-release support: Downloadable content, official mods and major patches that are notable should be discussed here.
  • References: Cite sources! If you are unsure what to include for references, game instruction booklets, guides, reviews, and interviews are all good candidates.
  • External links: When available, list the game website(s). If it was published in a non-English country first, list both the original country's website; in addition, list all relevant websites for English publications. Other sources that do not qualify as reliable sources may be used if they are not on the list of those to be avoided.

For series[edit]

  • Lead section: An opening sentence such as "Persona is a video game franchise developed and primarily published by Atlus" or similar. Then, a brief overview of the series' history.
  • Infobox: Series articles should have an infobox. Contents should adhere to the template documentation.
  • Games: Either a bulleted list or prose overview of series entries. Release platforms, dates and brief plot summaries can be included. Template: VG timeline can be used here.
  • Common gameplay elements: Discuss common elements that are shared between multiple series entries, not major differences between each as this information belongs in the respective game article.
  • Development: Summarise the overall development process of the series, major innovations, platform changes etc.
  • Reception: An overall summary of the series' critical reception and lifetime sales figures. Template:VG series reviews can be used here.
  • Related media/adaptations: Discuss related film/television/comic book adaptations here.
  • References: Cite sources! If you are unsure what to include for references, game instruction booklets, guides, reviews, and interviews are all good candidates.
  • External links: When available, list the series website(s). If it was published in a non-English country first, list both the original country's website; in addition, list all relevant websites for English publications. Other sources that do not qualify as reliable sources may be used if they are not on the list of those to be avoided.
