Polk County Pot Plane is a 1977 American independent film directed by James Ira West, jr., starring brothers Don and Bobby Watson.
Plot
[edit]‘Polk County Pot Plane’ tells a fictionalized account of a marijuana smuggling ring in Georgia that got caught on August 4th, 1975. The film opens with the arrival of a shipment of marijuana on ‘Big Bird,’ C-54 cargo plane piloted by ‘Big Jim’ (Jim West) and ‘Co-Pilot’ (Jack Hathaway). As the marijuana is being transferred into a camper by brothers ‘Oosh’ and ‘Doosh’ Watson (Don and Bobby Watson), ‘Bubble Eye,’ (James Crews) and ‘Sky King’ (Mike Skinner), State Patrol officers surveil the operation and move to capture them. The plane narrowly escapes, striking a police car, as the camper engages in a high-speed chase through rural Georgia. During the chase, the camper is involved in numerous accidents that culminate in a collision involving a bulldozer on a tractor trailer, which almost destroys the camper and forces another car off the road. The continues off-road until boxed in by police officers, at which point all four of them are arrested.
After their arrest, Doosh calls his girlfriend Denise (Wilona Mills) from jail, who calls ‘First Kingpin’ (Paul Weiner). First Kingpin calls the other members of ‘the organization’(“Sandy” St. Armour, T.C. Jones, and Don Pierce) together to discuss their options, deciding to break the group out of jail. After a conjugal visit with Doosh, Denise calls First Kingpin and lays out Doosh’s escape plan.
The following morning, Oosh, Doosh, Bubble Eye, and Sky King are maintaining the jail’s rooftop equipment under supervision when a helicopter piloted by ‘Helicopter Pilot’ (David Gadd) approaches from Jonesboro. The four overpower the guard and board the helicopter, with Oosh and Doosh hanging from the skids as it flies across Jonesboro and lands outside of town. The four are picked up by the organization and taken to its headquarters, where Helicopter Pilot gets killed after demanding a better deal.
